What Is Murabaha?
Murabaha, commonly known as cost-plus financing, represents an Islamic financial framework wherein both the seller and buyer mutually determine the cost and profit margin associated with an asset. This profit margin replaces the concept of interest, which is prohibited by Islamic law. Therefore, Murabaha does not constitute an interest-based loan, such as 'qardh ribawi,' but is a permissible form of credit sale in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence. Much like a rent-to-own agreement, ownership of the asset is transferred to the purchaser only upon full settlement of the loan.
